Regional Broadband Initiatives

Studies have shown that advanced telecommunications infrastructure is vital in creating economic opportunities in rural communities. It can help to attract technology-based businesses and industries, provide higher wage jobs, and make high-speed Internet access affordable and available in areas where such technology does not exist today. Adesta can build this infrastructure.

Adesta has completed with the Mid-Atlantic Broadband Cooperative in Southside Virginia where it was chosen as the designer, builder, and operator of an advanced, 700-mile open-access fiber optic network. The network will provide rural communities in southern Virginia access to competitive broadband communication providers and serve as an economic stimulus to attract new technology jobs to the region.

Adesta is currently working with Northern Enterprises to design, engineer and project manage the installation of a 400-mile open access fiber optic network in Northern Vermont where there is currently limited, affordable broadband communications services. The network, called North-Link, will provide this rural region a backbone for high-speed Internet access allowing for economic growth, development, and sustainability.

Adesta has completed the first segment of the Maryland Broadband Cooperative (MdBC). The MdBC is a universal access, fiber optic network designed to deliver advanced, world-class broadband access to rural communities throughout the Eastern Shore, Western Shore and Western Maryland. The organization fosters economic development supported by its' members who will provide last-mile services. We will soon be starting the second segment of the project.
